Skin Tag Removal
While they are not harmful, no one prefers unwanted skin tags regardless of what area they pop up in. If you’re looking to rid yourselves of the discomfort of skin tags, it’s time to see what Dynamic Dermatology can do for you!
What are skin tags?
So what exactly are skin tags? Skin tags, or acrochordons, are small, concentrated pieces of skin that hang from various areas on the body. They are noncancerous growths that are usually similar in color to the surrounding skin and appear as excess skin tissue extending from a sort of stem.
While these skin tags can range from 1 millimeter to a couple centimeters, skin tags are not dangerous. They are extremely common as well, as it is estimated that well over 25% of adults will have at least one skin tag in their lifetime.
Despite being completely benign in nature, skin tags can be irritating to the surrounding area, especially if you pick or itch them constantly.
How do skin tags form?
It is not completely clear why skin tags form, although different theories generally include either a build up of cells in the thicker parts of the skin, or excess collagen or blood vessels in the thicker parts of the skin.
Either way, it is clear that skin tags usually form in areas of high friction, where folds of skin are prevalent. This includes:
- Armpits
- Neck
- Groin/Thigh area
- Under the breasts
There could also be a genetic component that leads to a higher probability of skin tags. Regardless of the reasoning, Dynamic Dermatology has a removal solution.
How are skin tags removed?
There are three proven ways to remove skin tags.
First, your expert at Dynamic Dermatology can use a scalpel or other sharp instrument to either slice or shave off the skin tag.
Second, liquid nitrogen can be used to freeze off the growth.
Third, extreme heat can be used to burn off the skin tag.
In a consultation, your expert at Dynamic Dermatology will go over the available methods for your skin tag removal. They will weigh the options, taking into account your specific situation, and help you choose the best solution for removing your skin tag.
There is no significant recovery time for skin tag removal, as the procedure covers such a small surface area. You may have slight discomfort, but there is no reason you cannot go back to your normal activity.
What are the risks of skin tag removal?
Risks of skin tag removal are minimal, especially when done by an expert from Dynamic Dermatology. Risks and complications are much more of an issue when people try to take their skin tag removal into their own hands with over-the-counter products. These risks include:
- Scars
- Excessive bleeding
- Incomplete removal
- Damage to healthy skin
- Infection
If you are worried about risks do not try to do your skin removal yourself. Allow a trained professional at Dynamic Dermatology to take you through the process from start to finish.
